Poison Dart Frog (Blue)
Bright blue toxic frog species
The blue poison dart frog (Dendrobates tinctorius "azureus") is a small but visually striking amphibian found in parts of Suriname. Its bright blue coloration serves as a warning to predators about its toxic skin secretions. In the wild, its toxicity comes from its diet of specific insects. In captivity, it loses this toxicity due to controlled feeding. It is a ground-dwelling species that prefers humid forest floors.
