Tomato Frog
Bright red defensive frog from Madagascar
The tomato frog (Dyscophus species) is native to Madagascar and is known for its bright red or orange coloration. When threatened, it inflates its body to appear larger and secretes a sticky substance from its skin. This substance can irritate predators and discourage attacks. Tomato frogs spend much of their time buried in soil or leaf litter, waiting for insects to pass by. Their vivid coloration acts as a warning signal to potential predators.
