Wood Frog
Cold-resistant North American frog
The wood frog (Lithobates sylvaticus) is famous for its ability to survive freezing temperatures. It is found in North America and can survive being partially frozen during winter months. Its body produces natural antifreeze compounds that protect vital organs while the heart stops temporarily. In spring, it thaws and resumes normal activity. This adaptation allows it to live farther north than many other amphibians.
